Paani means Water in Nepali.  We salute our education partner Hands in Outreach for its quick, bold steps to forestall a public health crisis. The annual monsoon floodsthe slum in Kathmandu where HIO’s sponsored girls live. Century old communal taps that provide free water are drying up, forcing families to use dirty gray water for cooking and drinking.  Bottled water is far too expensive.

HIO took on the health threat.  To meet the needs of the girls and their families at home, HIO distributed ‘Smart Paani’ water filters to the families of sponsored girls. To meet the needs of the school, HIO installed an onsiterainwater collection and storage system.

HIO empowers its mothers and teachers to understand clean water projects. This is one of the many reasons Gendercide Awareness Project proudly partners with HIO in its 35-year mission of transforming lives through the power of education.
