An Op-Ed by Beverly Hill, Founder and President of the Gendercide Awareness Project, was shared in Newsweek this week. She opens the piece by stating that “the World Economic Forum has a blind spot when it comes to the lives of women and girls.” She notes the limited presence of women at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland in January. Over 2,700 leaders from 130 countries, including 52 heads of state and government, the absence of the voice of women was prevalent. Of the board of trustees, managing board and executive women less than a third are women.
Hill continues to speak about why the limited presence of women in this forum is so damaging when there are already 140 million demographically missing women from the world, skewing the sex ratio, leading to further civil instability and detrimental effects. This statistic comes from the UN Population Fund who states that these lives have not only been lost but are missing from the planet due to preventable social causes. As leader of the Gendercide Awareness Project, Beverly’s team focuses on raising awareness, particularly through our traveling art exhibit, and takes action by educating at-risk girls in developing countries.
