Low-income women and girls in Nepal’s patriarchal culture are too often marginalized and expected to give up their education and bury their dreams, perpetuating the relentless grip of poverty. Thanks to the work of Hands in Outreach, a women’s empowerment program, Be Part of Her Dream, was created so mothers like Rina could follow in the footsteps of their daughters and receive an HIO sponsored education.

The mothers are offered access to free education and a strong social support system.  They

gain literacy in Nepali and English and learn basic arithmetic.  They learn digital fluency in computer labs and gain vocational skills.  They earn Nepali citizenship, which is reserved for literate people only.   They learn financial literacy so they can open bank accounts and start small businesses.  They receive health care screenings and much more. And like their daughters, including Priya who is in her first year at the university, they gain the capacity to affect social change while developing inner dignity and hope through the power of education. This Mother’s Day Gendercide Awareness Project applauds the efforts of all our educational partners, who like Hands in Outreach, transform the lives of girls and women.
