This is Htang. She was living in an IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camp in Northern Myanmar when this picture was taken three years ago. She was one of ten girls the Gendercide Awareness Project sponsored for basic digital training through our partner Educational Empowerment in Myanmar.

Utilizing the digital skills she acquired in technology training, she was a Children’s Protection Volunteer in the camp. Myanmar’s turmoil has increased since military rule overthrew the fledgling democratic government. Htang epitomizes Educational Empowerment’s mission: “education is essential to fostering peace, reducing poverty and increasing gender equality.” In a country with the lowest education rate in all South East Asia, a country where no specific laws exist to prohibit domestic violence, Burmese women and girls are empowered through education. Gendercide Awareness Project is committed to creating awareness of the plight of women, and girls like Htang, in Myanmar and throughout the world .
