Gendercide Awareness Project has partnered with Uganda Empowers in a project called “female sustainable empowerment program in rural Uganda.” Part of the focus involves sponsoring girls and young mothers to attain vocational skills in respective training centers. Uganda Empowers staff (pictured above) distributed 2 packets of reusable sanitary pads to each girl, “that if kept well they can be used for one year.” This ensured that menstrual periods would not be a reason to miss out on training. “Without pads there is no way one can go and associate with others at the training centers.” This is just one of many obstacles poor young girls and women face in rural Uganda. Uganda Empowers believes that with Gendercide Awareness Project’s help, this program will change the lives of these young girls, their families, and help “change the perception of girls in their patriarchal community.”
