To Increase Awareness: We are collecting 11,700 pairs of baby booties, with each pair representing 10,000 missing women and girls. They will be displayed in a very long corridor lined with baby booties on all sides. Before entering the corridor, visitors will read basic information about gendercide. The exhibit will open in Dallas in 2015 and travel to other cities in the U.S. and around the world.
To Help End Gendercide: We cannot change cultural attitudes overnight. However, grassroots organizations that offer education, job training, micro-credit, and healthcare to women and girls have proven effective in increasing women’s incomes and improving their status in their families and communities. Our exhibit will provide information about the work of these organizations, encouraging visitors to donate directly to them, and offering a list of those known to be reputable and effective.
Please note — the funds collected by the Gendercide Awareness Project will be used to build, publicize, store, and ship our exhibit. Once those needs are met, we will stop collecting funds and point potential donors to the grassroots organizations described above.
