A series of five films commissioned by UN Women is titled in Arabic and English simply #WeAreHere, a statement of defiance and a message of future commitment.
“Every time I meet a woman I feel there is hope in Syria,” says Mona Ganem, a Damascus lawyer who was forced to leave the country after the uprising against President Bashar Al Assad morphed into vicious armed conflict.
“Women have such potential, such possibilities, but they need a ray of light to walk the right path.”
