Gendercide contributes directly to child marriage and, as a result, maternal death. In areas where men greatly outnumber women, there will always be bachelors who cannot find brides. With all the women of suitable age taken, these bachelors turn to ever younger girls to find brides. The more skewed the sex ratio, the younger the brides. Gendercide is not the exclusive cause of child marriage; poverty contributes, too. But gendercide plays a role that often is not recognized or acknowledged. Watch video by Human Rights Watch.
