We at Women Deliver bring to your attention the powerful tribute to Feminists and Women Human Rights Defenders who have passed away created by the Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) as part of the 16 Days Campaign Against Gender Based Violence (November 25 – December 10, 2014).
This is the third iteration of this tribute, which was first launched in 2012. The latest version remains as a haunting and inspirational online photo exhibition on their website. Many of the women shown in the photos passed away as a result of their activism. Not included, but certainly a candidate for remembrance, is Sameera Salih Ali-al Nuaimy who was seized from her home in Iraq by Islamic State fighters in September. She was tortured for several days before a masked firing squad executed her in public. Sadly, she was just one of the many professional and educated women who have lost their lives in the fight for human rights in 2014."
